Well it has been awhile since I posted for many a reason...homeschooling Sophia is wonderful. She read the sentence "I met Ed" today. I was so proud of us both!!! She has been making her United States binder in which we take one state a day, learn about its relative location, state bird, flower, tree and capital. I love to see her eager and excited about learning, but don't get me wrong, we are not without days where the spoon sits right beside us because she's squirming in her chair not wanting to write 1-20 or the alphabet. I am interested to see where this year is going to take us, with the suggestion of others, mainly one I admire most (kati) I have the strongest feeling we will be moving away from the "write your name at the top of this sheet, finish that sheet, and on to this worksheet" kind of teaching to something more liberating like our United States Binder.
Do you know what I love best about all of this...choice! I get to choose what is best for my child and not someone else. What a fright I can see in the distant future where the right to parent will be ripped away and taken over by the government if philosophies don't coincide with theirs. I am proud to be an educated woman, with the desire and ability to vote according to my convictions of how I believe our America should be.
